Great Hallingbury village includes the hamlets of Start Hill, Tilekiln Green, Bedlars Green, Howe Green, Anvil Cross, Woodside Green, Jenkins Lane and Beldams. The village falls within the Uttlesford District Council in the County of Essex.
Hallingbury featured in the Domesday Book when it had 2 mills, 10 beehives, 2 foals and 32 goats. The manor of Hallingbury Place was adjacent to Hatfield Forest which became a royal forest under William the Conqueror and was part of the Forest of Essex. Where we are
Great Hallingbury is approximately 3 miles south west of Bishop's Stortford, mostly located on the eastern side of the M11. The distance from junction 8 on the M11 to the centre of the village is approximately 1.75 miles.
