St.Giles' Church, Great Hallingbury

St.Giles' in Great Hallingbury, together with St.Mary's in Little Hallingbury, forms the United Benefice of The Hallingburys, in the diocese of Chelmsford.  Services alternate between the two churches.

St.Giles' is a very ancient church, being between eight and nine hundred years old.  It is very interesting, both architecturally and historically, having been extensively enlarged and renovated during the 1870s.  Its features include a chancel arch lined with Roman tiles and a 19th century marble reredos and wall-painting that are quite outstanding in a rural parish church.  The worship of God has been taking place during all those centuries in this beautiful building at the heart of the community.

St.Giles' celebrates Holy Communion twice each month at 8am, a Family Service and also Morning Prayer, both monthly. In the summer months there is Evensong on the first Sunday.  There are other events throughout the year, including social occasions as well as special services.   As in most churches these days, we have both modern services from Common Worship, the Church of England's official modern liturgy,  in addition to the more traditional services from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer.  Where appropriate children's activities are provided during some 10 am services.

There is a choir and a team of bell-ringers.  The 1st Great Hallingbury Brownie pack is part of the church family and we have close links both with Little Hallingbury C of E Primary School (which serves both villages) and Howe Green House School.

We at St.Giles' are a group of Christian people who seek to serve God and the community in this village and welcome everyone to our services and activities.
