Markets

Street markets add to the range of retail facilities available in the district, they also provide colour and culture and are often closely associated with local tradition.

Aside from the regular street markets in Dunmow, Saffron Walden and Thaxted there are a range of other markets including general produce markets, flea markets, antique markets and farmers' markets.

Saffron Walden Market (Tuesday and Saturday)


The market is situated in the Market Square in the centre of the town with easy access from the three main car parks at The Common, Rose and Crown and Fairycroft Road. Swan Meadow car park is a short walk away.

There is a wide range of stalls including those selling fruit and vegetables, clothes, plants, books, antiques, stationery, picture frames, fabrics, household goods, health food, cards, jewellery and tools.

Saffron Walden Town Council is responsible for the administration of the market.

Great Dunmow Market (Tuesday)

The market in Great Dunmow is located just off the High Street. As well as fruit and vegetables, visitors can buy clothes, fish, pet food, plants and garden furniture. Parking is close by at the White Street, Chequers Lane and Angel Lane car parks.

Thaxted Market (Friday morning only)

Stalls are set up along the main street and are easily accessible from the Margaret Street car park. There are traders selling fruit, vegetables, pet food, sweets, baskets, cards and flowers.
