Grounds Maintenance

The Environmental Services section of Uttlesford District Council is responsible for the grass cutting, hedge cutting, maintenance of trees, shrub beds and herbicide treatment on council owned land within the District. These areas include gardens, housing areas, recreation land, a cemetery in Saffron Walden, accommodation for the elderly and car parks. The council operates a grass and hedge cutting service free of charge for council tenants who are unable to maintain their gardens.

There are also within the district, numerous areas of dedicated open space, some of which are maintained by the District Council, some revert to the local town or parish council.

All parishes are responsible for care of their greens and play areas within their villages.

Highway verges, public footpaths, bridleways and green roads are maintained by Essex County Council Highways department.

Our grounds maintenance service is contracted out to private companies. Grass is cut regularly throughout the growing season, shrub beds are visited routinely to remove weeds and prune the shrubs, most shrub beds are mulched using woodchip produced by our contractors from work carried out on our behalf within the district minimizing the need for chemical weed control.

Herbicide treatment is carried out on an “as required basis”, using an environmentally friendly-as-possible product.

Tree maintenance is carried out to council specifications using fully qualified and insured tree surgeons.

If an area of grass is missed or even if you feel a poor cut has been made, then please do not hesitate to let us know. Please contact UConnect on 01799 510510
