Stansted Airport Generation Two - Proposals relating to Second Runway
The 38 applications for planning permission and listed building consent comprising the second runway proposals, which were submitted to Uttlesford District Council in March and April 2008 by BAA Ltd and Stansted Airport Ltd, have now been withdrawn. As a result, the public inquiry which was due to take place has been cancelled.
BAA Stansted says it withdrew the second runway proposal because of a clear indication that government aviation policy will change under the coalition government, meaning that the proposals would no longer be supported.
National Air Traffic Services (NATS) Change Proposal
NATS’ work to revise the airspace design for the Terminal Control North region was subject to consultation last year. As a result of that consultation, NATS is currently working on revised airspace designs, which will not be ready for consultation before at least September 2010. Stansted Airport Generation One – Proposals to Increase Use of Existing Airport
Planning permission for airport expansion from 25 million passengers per annum (mppa) to 35 mppa was granted by the Secretary of State on 8 October 2008 following a public inquiry.
