HELP
HELP is the Healthy Eating and Lifestyle Programme that aims to increase levels of participation in sports, active recreation, health and well-being and tackle the rising tide of obesity through the introduction of a simple weight management programme.
It is based on the principle of energy in=energy out and targets realistic imbalance if weight loss is required. It is also a home exercise programme that encourages five 30-minute sessions a week and is provided free (although there may be a small charge for some activities) and open to all age ranges and those with mobility problems.
The outreach and support worker promotes and co-ordinates the programme to ensure maintenance of activity, develops programmes (e.g. health walks) and monitors progress.
Lead partners for the project are Leisure Connection, Uttlesford District Council, West Essex Primary Care Trust, Lilleshall Sports Injury & Human Performance Centre, the Community Mental Health Team, Uttlesford MIND and The Uttlesford Rural Network (TURN).
