Why we need the Centre!

The Museum's store-rooms are small and over-crowded. For many years reserve collections of local archaeology, geology and large historical objects have been kept in an off-site store several miles away. This store however is not up to museum standards, suffers occasional floods, and lacks proper facilities. We have no room for all the new archaeological finds being unearthed by developments in the district, no room to collect objects reflecting Uttlesford's recent history and no room to re-house some of our fine natural history collections from a cramped attic!

The Heritage Quest Centre will solve all these problems and provide a modern research facility where reserve collections can be studied by appointment, and where we can offer behind-the-scenes tours, special events and classes, and on-line searching of collections.
