Saffron Walden Museum is the second oldest purpose-built museum in the country, founded in 1835.
The aims of the Museum Society are:
- To promote further development of the museum as an area amenity:
- To provide informal links between the community and the museum
- To encourage access by all, particularly the younger generations
The Society, working with Uttlesford District Council, seeks to provide an appropriate ambience for the appreciation of its extensive collections, which have many times of local relevance. It also acquires additional items to complement existing collections or where there is a strong local connection or interest.
