How to pay for your services

The full payment options are as follows:

Direct Debit:  This is the easiest and cheapest method of making payment, both for you and us. In addition, by reducing administration costs, paying by Direct Debit helps to keep the level of everyone's bill down.

When you agree to pay by Direct Debit you are automatically covered by the following guarantee:

Direct Debit Guarantee

If you are already paying by Direct Debit, you do not need to apply again. This Guarantee is offered by all Banks and Building Societies that take part in the Direct Debit Scheme. The efficiency and security of the Scheme is monitored and protected by your own Bank or Building Society.

If the amounts to be paid or the payment dates change, Uttlesford District Council will notify you 10 working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed.

If an error is made by Uttlesford District Council or your Bank or Building Society, you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your branch of the amount paid.

You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time in writing to your Bank or Building Society. Please also send a copy of your letter to us.

If you would like to pay by this method please either complete and return the instruction printed on the back of your Council Tax Demand Notice, or download the online form which can be found under 'online forms' on this website.

By telephone: Credit/Debit card payments may be made by automated telephone at any time of the day, week or year. Please ring 01799 510551. Please have your card details, Council Tax reference number and the amount you want to pay ready.

Post Office: You can pay at any Post Office, using a plastic payment card. No charge is currently payable for this service, which is currently only available to Council Tax, Rent and Business Rate customers. Please contact the Council Tax Office is you would like a card. Until a card arrives, payment may be made by Transcash quoting your Council Tax reference and our Giro Account number 3065219. A charge is payable for the Transcash Service. 

In person: You can pay in person using a Credit/Debit card at the council offices:

  • London Road, Saffron Walden, CB11 4ER; or
  • High Street, Great Dunmow, CM6 1AN.

The opening times for both are 8.30 to 4.30 Monday to Thursday and 4.00 on Friday. Please bring your Council Tax Demand Notice with you.

As an alternative to queuing, ATM machines are also installed at both offices.
