Recycling and Waste
Every hour the UK throws away enough rubbish to fill The Albert Hall; most of it ends up in landfill. As the UK continues waging its war on waste, emphasis on the importance of waste management is becoming more apparent.
We all play a part in managing our own waste and thankfully the residents of Uttlesford are very proficient waste managers.
Between April 2007 and March 2008 you recycled 54% of your waste.

Wheeled Bin Delivery - Delay
The delay can be attributed to a shortage of wheeled bins across the whole country. Whilst we now have brown food bins in stock, we are still awaiting delivery of the larger green recycling bin (we have been told to expect delivery in early 2009). Germany and many Eastern European countries began flooding the market, earlier this year, with orders for wheeled bins. Rather than serve the UK market, manufacturers have been prioritising their production schedules in order to satisfy the demand from across Europe.
To eliminate any further service disruptions, the decision was made to utilise our surplus stock of black bins to create green recycling bins (by way of a green sticker on the bin lid). The black bin is a smaller than our standard green bin, however if you require additional capacity then delivery of a second recycling bin can be arranged. Alternatively you can leave recyclables, tied in carrier bags or white pedal bin liners, at the side of your recycling bin on collection day.
In the meantime, whilst you wait for your bins to be delivered, please use carrier bags / white pedal bins liners for your recyclables and black bin liners for your non-recyclables. Food waste can, for the interim be mixed with your non-recyclables, or alternatively please ask a friendly neighbour if you can share their brown bin.
