The RUTH database, launched in 2006, enables for the first time an online, searchable listing of documents (or copies), photographs and artefacts held in village local history collections. This will provide a valuable supplement, in addition to record office, library and museum resources, for researchers seeking information on any of the places listed.
The input to the RUTH catalogue will be continuous, so it is worth checking once a month for new entries. Each item has a unique identifier which enables researchers to enquire further via the website to the Recorder concerned. This is believed to be the first such database to offer online access to village collections in this way.
