Members of the Uttlesford Recorders recently had a very interesting evening visiting the Saffron Walden Town Library, shortly before its closure while the building is refurbished. Library manager Jill Palmer showed Recorders the varioius resources of the Town Library, and the Recorders were particularly intrigued by the rolling stacks in the Gibson Room where they found much of interest.
Jill invited volunteers to help with cataloguing the village boxfiles that at present are not computerized at all - this is a possible project for the RUTH database. She also explained the new plans for a complete revamp of the main library.
The Recorders were pleased to renew their contacts with the Library, which until next July will be housed in temporary accommodation at Church Street.
