The purpose of voluntary Local History Recorders is to record the present, and safeguard evidence of the past. They work to chronicle current events, report heritage finds, take care of local collections, preserve and copy historical material, return information to the community and maintain a link with heritage bodies.
The Uttlesford group, which was founded in 1998 and became fully constituted in 2003, acts as a support body for the work of Local History Recorders in Uttlesford, helping to ensure that village heritage is preserved for the future. In many villages the LH Recorder works in conjunction with a local history society or other volunteers who help with cataloguing, conserving and displaying the local history collection.
Associate membership of ULHR is available for history groups and others who wish to support our work.
