Armed Forces Day - 26 June

Throughout the week leading up to Saturday 26 June we'll be celebrating our armed forces.

Armed Forces Day is a chance for us to show our support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.

What is Armed Forces Memorial Day

Armed Forces Day takes place on the last Saturday each June.  In 2021, it will take place on Saturday 26 June.

Armed Forces Day celebrations begin on Monday 21 June when the Armed Forces Day flag is raised on buildings and famous landmarks around the country. We'll be raising the flag at Uttlesford as part of the celebrations.

Raising the flag in Uttlesford

On Monday 21 June the Chair of the Council, Cllr Arthur Coote, will be raising the flag at our offices in Saffron Walden. Due to Covid-19 restrictions this will be a small ceremony attended only by a small number of staff and invited guests.

2021 national event

This year's Armed Forces Day National Event was due to have been hosted by Scarborough Borough Council. It has been postponed until next year due to the Covid-19 pandemic and will be held on Saturday 25 June 2022

You can find out more about the national event on the Scarborough Armed Forces Day website.

Find an activity

Each year thousands of activities take place across the UK to mark Armed Forces Day (AFD). Find activities near you by searching for an event on the AFD website.

Organise your own local event

If you can't find an event near you, why not hold your own? From creating an event for your local community to a get-together with family and friends no event is too big or too small for Armed Forces Day. There is guidance and suggestions on organising events on the AFD website. Remember that you'll need to refer to the latest COVID-19 government guidance.
