Gangs

Gangs and gang violence is very worrying and is spreading throughout this area.

A gang is defined as a:

Relatively durable, predominantly street based group of young people who:

  • See themselves (and are seen by others) as a discernible group
  • Engage in a range of criminal activities and violence

They may also have any or all of the following features:

  • Identify with or lay claim over territory
  • Have some form of identifying structure feature

Crimestoppers are running a campaign to encourage Essex residents to speak up about gang-related crime on their streets. Knives, guns, violence, drugs, sexual exploitation and theft are all issues associated with gangs.

As an independent charity Crimestoppers, want to raise awareness among members of the public as well as encourage those with vital information to contact them anonymously through their Gangs don't care - do you? campaign.
