Uttlesford flies a flag for the Armed Forces

Uttlesford District Council has shown its support for the British Armed Forces by hoisting a flag at its offices in Saffron Walden.

Armed Forces Day Flag

Cllr Geoffrey Sell, chairman of the council, raised the Armed Forces Day flag today (Monday 19 June). He was joined by fellow councillors, council staff, and members of the Royal British Legion and armed forces from Carver Barracks, who had been invited to the ceremony to mark the occasion.

Cllr Sell said: "We have always raised the flag in support of our Armed Forces but this year is the second time we have invited the wider community to take part in this important event.

"We all acknowledge the significance of showing our support which provides a much valued morale boost for the troops and their families and not forgetting those with family and friends currently in active service. It also gives us an opportunity publicly to express our appreciation and gratitude to those who lay their lives on the line on a daily basis in our interests.

"We often tend to take our peace and security for granted. But the fact that we have it is due very largely to the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who are our ultimate protectors. Too often their bravery and dedication is not fully appreciated.

"Armed Forces Day brings what they do to the forefront and reminds us of the vital contribution they are making."

Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for the people of the UK to demonstrate their support for service men and women, past, present and future.

The flag will fly at UDC until Armed Forces Day itself on Saturday 24 June.
