During this apprenticeship, you will follow a fully supported training programme with The Apprentice & Training Partnership, delivered through combined classroom-based training, workplace assessment/training and online learning. You will interact with a wide variety of internal or external users of digital systems, through digital channels, remotely and/or face to face.

What you will be doing:

  • Resolve problems associated with operating systems, networks, software, hardware, printers
  • Interact with a wide variety of internal/external users including liaise with third party suppliers
  • Service desk support diagnosis of IT issues and supporting users remotely
  • Installation of new software and hardware
  • Maintain and fix other computing equipment
  • Assist in system upgrades and system maintenance
  • Assisted site visits alongside colleagues, to support with issue resolutions
  • Support with technology asset management and keeping accurate records

Support Technician Duties:

  • Install and configure relevant software and hardware as appropriate
  • Address IT issues by prioritising in response to customer service level agreements utilities the IT helpdesk
  • Administer security access requirements and permissions for stakeholders escalating as necessary for example password resets
  • Support the roll out of upgrades or new systems or applications

The training you'll be provided with:

  • Comprehensive introductory modules to technical concepts
  • Level 3 Information Communications Technician apprenticeship standard
  • Training for all pathways of your IT career (support technician, network technician, digital communications technician)
  • Specialising in a portfolio of evidence for the Support Technician pathway
  • e-learning training materials
  • Bi-weekly virtual classroom training on all options of the apprenticeships;
  • Access to virtual labs to develop technical competency

Working Week:

  • Monday-Thursday - 8.30am to 5.00pm Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm.
  • One day study leave to be advised on commencement of course.

For the first few months you will be working onsite in order to ensure a comprehensive training and induction programme is established.  This will then lead to a hybrid model of working.

Qualifications:

It is an advantage to have GCSE 9-4 grades or equivalent in English and Maths to apply for this type of apprenticeship. If you do not have these grades but have completed numeracy and literacy Key Skills/Functional Skills at level two you may also apply for this apprenticeship.
