Energy rebate exceptional hardship scheme

A package of support known as the Council Tax Energy Rebate was announced by the government to help households with rising energy costs.

Those who qualified under the main scheme (residents in properties in council tax bands A to D) and those under the discretionary scheme (those in bands E to H, subject to qualifying criteria) will have already received their £150 payment or been contacted on how to claim it.

If you did not qualify for either scheme but are struggling to pay your energy bill, you may wish to apply for help through the Energy Rebate Exceptional Hardship Scheme. Please do not apply if you have already received a council tax energy rebate.

Full details and the online application form can be found at www.uttlesford.gov.uk/energyrebate-ehf.

The scheme will close on 31 October. Payments will be made depending on individual circumstances and will be awarded on a case-by-case basis.

To qualify, you must:

  • Be solely or mainly resident in the property and the person liable for the Council Tax. In addition, the property will be listed between bands E to H in the Council Tax valuation list in the Uttlesford area on 1 April 2022
  • Have not already received an energy rebate on this or any other property

Full details about the Council Tax Energy Rebate schemes can be found on Uttlesford District Council's website: www.uttlesford.gov.uk/energy-bills-rebate. Alternatively, you can contact the council on 01799 510510.
