Council makes grant available for Coronation celebrations

In May, the nation will celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III - and Uttlesford District Council is offering small grants to assist local groups in marking the historic occasion.

Town and parish councils, schools, community groups and local organisations can apply for the Coronation Celebrations Grants scheme, with grants of at least £700 available in each parish in the district.

This could be to help pay for street parties or costs associated with organising an event such as licenses or insurance - however, the event must be open to all residents.

Additional grants of up to £200 are also available for tree planting commemorations.

Cllr Heather Asker, Chair of Uttlesford District Council, said: "The Coronation of King Charles will be an occasion that will be remembered for years to come. With the help of community groups, town and parish councils and schools, we hope these grants will support events to leave a lasting-legacy in our district and bringing communities together for lasting memories and being a part of history.

"If you are planning a street party or a celebration event for the coronation and are eligible for the grant, please head to our website and submit an application."

The closing date for applications is midday on Thursday 13 April.
