Join in the summer of cycling!

Uttlesford District Council will be hosting a series of 'come and try' events with the aim to get more people interested and participating in cycling.

Cycling is an affordable, environmentally sustainable means of transport, and has many additional health benefits including reducing the risk of a number of illnesses, boosting your mood, and helps you to maintain a healthy weight.

On the back of the Ride London-Essex women's race which starts in Saffron Walden on 26 May, followed by the mass cycling participation event in the district on 28 May, the council's Climate Change team has some exciting events lined up to help you take to two wheels.

World Bicycle Day - Thursday 1 June, 10am to 3pm - Market Square, Saffron Walden

Sign up for family rides around Saffron Walden led by trained professionals to increase your awareness, confidence and skills in cycling on the road. Bring your children along for free 'learn to ride' sessions. Booking is essential via: https://letstalk.uttlesford.gov.uk/events

Does your bike need some TLC? Whether just a check over or if it's in need of some more serious attention, bring your old and broken bikes along to the 'bike doctor' to get them fixed for free!

Come and make a smoothie from pedal power on a free smoothie bike, great for you and the planet.

Come and try e-cargo bikes from Outspoken cycles.

Talk about EV cars and how to save money and energy in your home with the Energy Savings Trust.

Find out how you can set up community energy groups and projects, and access funding with Community Energy South.

Talk to our climate change and waste and recycling teams who will be on hand to offer advice and answer your questions.

Free guided bike rides with the professionals- Sunday 16 July

Join our guided bike rides, led by professionals to increase your confidence on two wheels. Children are welcome but they must be able to ride for two hours at a medium pace. There are two slots - 10am to 12pm, and 1pm to 3pm. Book you place now, via: https://letstalk.uttlesford.gov.uk/events

Residents can come and talk to the team at any of these events - which are run in collaboration with Saffron Walden Town Council - about anything climate or clean air related.
