Geof gets on his (e)bike for Accuro

The Chair of Uttlesford District Council is cycling around the district on an e-bike to raise money for a local disability charity.

Cllr Geof Driscoll, who is in the role of Chair for 2023/24, set off today (Monday 4 September) on a ride which will see him cover more than 70 miles and visit every ward in Uttlesford over the next few days.

He will be raising awareness and funds for STRIDE, a six-month life skills project run by Accuro for young adults with a learning disability in west Essex. The programme covers essential topics for independent living such as healthy living, relationships, household tasks, keeping safe, employment, digital skills and much more.

Geof said: "Accuro STRIDE is a fantastic project and makes a big difference in helping these young people to build their confidence and independence.

"I've been very keen to raise awareness of the charity after seeing the friendships and the happy faces of the group when I was invited to last year's graduation. I would be very grateful for any sponsorship in aid of this very worthy cause.

"Thank you to Tekmotiv for loaning me the electric hybrid bike to complete this challenge."

Residents can keep an eye on Geof's progress via the council's website: www.uttlesford.gov.uk/chairs-charity-bike-ride.

Donations to Accuro can be made at: www.justgiving.com/page/chairs-charity-bike-ride.

As part of his journey, Geof will stop at various locations along the way, including visits to see the progress being made on some of the projects that were awarded funding through the council's Zero Carbon Communities Grant scheme. More information about the projects is available at: www.uttlesford.gov.uk/zero-carbon-communities-grant.
