Blooming marvellous success for garden competition winners!

Green-fingered tenants recently experienced the sweet smell of success following a gardening competition organised by Uttlesford District Council.

The winners received a certificate and gardening vouchers, presented by Cllr Geof Driscoll, Chair of the council, and his consort.

The competition was open to all the council's tenants and leaseholders, with four categories to choose from. The winners were:

·       Best Garden - Richard Hurry from Great Chesterford

·       Best Communal Garden - Reynolds Court in Newport

·       Best Tub or Pot - Barry Richardson from Saffron Walden

·       Tallest Sunflower - Melanie Proctor from Stansted, who sunflower measured a whopping 3.5m

The competition was judged by the council's Environmental Services Supervisor, Steve King, who was hugely impressed.

Steve said: "It was an absolute pleasure to be able to be part of the garden competition - the time and care the participants have taken to enjoy their surroundings was uplifting to see.

"There were so many different ideas and visions. It was very difficult to come to a final decision as anyone who takes the time to make their surroundings better for themselves and wildlife deserves to win.

"Congratulations to everyone who entered - you all deserve to be winners! Keep up the work and I look forward to next year."
