Uttlesford is a unique district; largely rural in nature with thriving market towns and an International airport. Much of our economy takes place outside our historic town centres and we are perfectly positioned to be a key part of the UK Innovation Corridor running between London and Cambridge. Companies on the nearby Chesterford Research Park are some of the districts largest employers.        

Economically Uttlesford is comparatively buoyant with residents having above average skills and income levels. In 2019 a total of 5,435 businesses operating within the borders, of these almost 91% are classified as micro operations employing fewer than 10 people.

We are one of the best connected districts in the County. By Summer 2021 the Ultrafast GPs Local Full Fibre Network (LFFN) project will be delivering 'full fibre' broadband infrastructure to provide ultrafast digital connectivity, capable of speeds up to 1Gbps - up to 30 times faster than superfast broadband - to GP surgery sites across the Uttlesford district, helping to put them at the forefront of digital health care. In addition, the new broadband network built to the surgeries will also support future demand for fibre broadband from the residential and business properties located in the areas around the surgerie
