Business Improvement Districts

Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) are partnerships set up to improve particular commercial areas.

If you are a business in a BID area you will be asked to pay a small levy on top of your business rates. This is then used to fund projects which benefit local businesses. A Business Improvement District can charge this levy for up to five years.

Paying your BID levy

Your Bid levy is payable in one annual instalment. Find out how to pay your levy on our Business Improvement District (BID) levy page.

Saffron Walden

Saffron Walden businesses approved a BID for the town centre in July 2018.

Most businesses in the BID area (those with a business rateable value of over £5,000) will pay an extra levy on top of their rateable value.

The Saffron Walden BID is led and controlled by businesses. It is an independent organisation with ring-fenced resources and finances.

The directory of businesses on the SW BID website will tell you which ones are in the Saffron Walden BID area.
