Covid-19 business support grants

Information about the grants and financial help available to local businesses as a result of the Covid-19 local and National restrictions.

 

Non-discretionary "National Lockdown" Grant (Localised Restriction Support Grant - Closed)

All businesses (that are business rate payers) and that have been instructed to close by the recent government regulations during the national lockdown are eligible. This includes non-essential retail, leisure, personal care, sports facilities and hospitality businesses.

The amount of grant that you can apply for depends on rateable value of your business.

  • If your business is eligible and has a property with a rateable value of £15,000 or under, you'll receive a cash grant of £1,334 for each 28 day period your business is closed
  • If your business is eligible and has a property with a rateable value of £15,001 up to and including £50,999, you'll receive a cash grant of £2,000 for each 28 day period your business is closed
  • If your business is eligible and has a property with a rateable value of £51,000 or above, you'll receive a cash grant of £3,000 for each 28 day period your business is closed

Businesses impacted while in Tier 2 (Localised Restriction Support Grant - Open)

This grant is primarily to support businesses in the hospitality, hotel, bed & breakfast and leisure or other sectors. These are businesses that were not legally required to close, but were severely impacted by the localised restrictions which were in place from 17 October 2020 to 4 November 2020. 

Where the Business is shown in the Local Non-Domestic rating list (paying business rates). This is how much grant you will receive:

  • If your business is eligible and has a property with a rateable value of £15,000 or under, you'll receive a cash grant of £934 for each 28 day period your business is closed
  • If your business is eligible and has a property with a rateable value of £15,001 up to and including £50,999, you'll receive a cash grant of £1400 for each 28 day period your business is closed
  • If your business is eligible and has a property with a rateable value of £51,000 or above, you'll receive a cash grant of £2,100 for each 28 day period your business is closed

Where the business is NOT shown in the Local Non-Domestic rating list (not paying business rates). This is how much grant you will receive:

  • All cases will be considered by the council on a case by case basis and grants may be awarded up to a maximum of £1000

The amounts shown will be pro-rata to take into account the shorter period Essex was in Tier 2.

Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG)

A discretionary scheme to help businesses which have had to close, or been able to trade, but have been severely affected by the COVID-19 restrictions, regardless of whether they pay business rates.

This grant is only available whilst Uttlesford District Council's area is subject to national and Local Covid Alert tier 3 restrictions.

Applications must be made by 5pm on Friday 18 December and grants will be awarded on a first-come-first served basis.
