Advice and support to help manage the rising cost of living.

Essex Energy Switch

Check out the community scheme which aims to help you get a better deal on your energy bills.

The Essex Energy Switch is a county-wide collective energy switching campaign designed to help residents reduce their gas and electricity bills. The scheme is delivered by the council and iChoosr, an independent specialist provider in collective energy switching.

If you've never switched energy supplier or if it has been a number of years, the savings are likely to be significant.  Even if you do switch regularly, it is still worth registering to ensure you are maintaining the best tariffs available.

How does the scheme work

Collective energy switching works by bringing together large groups of residents who want to switch providers and pay less for their energy. The average household saving has previously been £230, however if you haven't switched for a number of years, the savings could be even greater.

Energy auctions

A one-day 'auction' is held the day after final registration day, with energy companies coming forward to offer their best possible tariffs.

Everyone who registers receives a personalised offer which details how much they can save by switching to the winning provider.

You do not have to accept the offer and you do not need to switch supplier if you do not want to.

Those who do decide to accept their offer will be supported by iChoosr with the switching process. You may already be a customer of the winning energy supplier, so therefore will not technically "switch" but just be on a cheaper tariff.

Auction dates

Auctions are held in February, May and October every year.

If you miss an auction you can always wait until the next auction date.

How to register for the scheme

You can register on the Essex Energy Switch website. It is quick and easy but please remember to make sure you have your annual statement handy.
