Uttlesford welcomes £630k funding boost for energy efficiency upgrades
Uttlesford District Council has been awarded £630,000 to radically improve the energy efficiency of its main offices in Saffron Walden.
The council will use the UK Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme money to carry out a whole range of improvements to the building at London Road. This will include draughtproofing, roof void insulation, secondary glazing, replacing boilers with an air source heat pump system, upgrading radiators and pipework, and installing solar PV panels.
The exciting project will generate an anticipated carbon saving of 90 tonnes of CO2 per year - meaning a reduction in the building's carbon footprint of over 50%.
Cllr Neil Reeve, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Climate Change, said: "We're delighted to have been awarded such a significant sum of government money which will help us to massively reduce the carbon footprint of our London Road offices over the next two years. The funding scheme is an extremely competitive process, and I would like to thank everyone involved in securing this funding.
"The project will reduce the building's reliance on fossil fuels and lower energy bills, and is a major step towards decarbonising our estate and meeting our commitment to reach net zero."
The Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme is run by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, and is delivered by Salix. It provides grants for public sector bodies such as councils, schools, universities and the NHS, to fund heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures.
Ian Rodger, Director of Public Sector Decarbonisation at Salix, said: "We are delighted to work with Uttlesford District Council as it progresses in its net zero journey. The project for its London Road offices will not only result in reducing the carbon footprint of the building, but it will create a more comfortable environment for the people working there and using the site."
