Housing strategy survey
Have your say on the future of council housing in Uttlesford.
We are developing a new housing asset management strategy that will guide how we invest in and maintain your home for the next 30 years.
If you are a council tenant or leaseholder, this is your opportunity to have your say.
About the survey
Our homes need ongoing care and investment. Some need new kitchens and bathrooms, others require better insulation, and all need regular maintenance to keep them safe and comfortable.
The new Housing Asset Management Strategy will set out how we:
- maintain and improve existing council homes
- ensure all homes meet safety standards
- make homes more energy efficient
- enhance communal areas and estates
- balance different priorities with the money available
Why your input matters
As someone who lives in council housing, your views are essential. You know better than anyone what would make the biggest difference to your home and community.
Challenges and choices
We are facing some challenges but also there are opportunities.
Challenges
We're facing several significant challenges:
- many homes have aging components needing replacement
- new safety regulations following Grenfell Tower require additional work
- he climate emergency means we need to reduce carbon emissions
- construction and maintenance costs continue to rise
- our financial resources are limited
Choices
With limited funds, we need to make careful choices about priorities:
- should we focus on safety work or cosmetic improvements
- how quickly should we improve energy efficiency
- is it better to do comprehensive work on fewer homes or basic improvements to many
- how do we balance planned maintenance versus responsive repairs
