Permission to place tables and chairs on the pavement
If you are a business such as a pub, restaurant, wine bar or café you may need permission to have chairs and tables outside your premises for use by your customers.

Restrictions
Your permit might include restrictions, for example on how big the furniture can be or where you can place it on the pavement.
You will probably have to meet other conditions, like leaving a certain width of pavement free for pedestrian traffic or marking the border of your seating area with metal studs.

Email the completed form to licensing@uttlesford.gov.uk
There's a £100.00 fee.
You can pay by credit or debit card over the phone, by internet banking or by sending us a cheque.
Before you start
You will need your credit or debit card to pay the fee at the end of the application.
You will need to provide other information, including:
- a copy of an Ordnance Survey site plan (scale 1:1250)
- detailed seating plan (scale 1:100 or larger)
- a copy of a risk assessment for the area
For new applications only you will also need to send us:
• illustrations/photographs of the tables, chairs and barriers which you intend to use within the proposed area
Fines and penalties
If you don't get the permit, follow the conditions or pay the licence fee, we may force you to remove your furniture from the pavement.
