New council homes scheme for local people completed

Twelve bungalows with subsidence have been replaced with 16 new energy efficient homes in Littles Dunmow.

The homes, at The Moors, are for people on the Uttlesford District Council Housing Register.

The first of the properties - eight flats - were handed over before Christmas and the tenants are already enjoying their new homes. The keys to the final eight properties were handed over to the council last week. The remaining tenants will soon be moving in.

Thanks to a grant of £460,000 awarded by Homes England towards the construction, eight of the properties were able to be delivered at social rent. The council worked with DCH Construction on the project.

Cllr Petrina Lees, Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Housing, said: "We are thrilled that that our new council homes are complete. We have had great feedback from tenants who are delighted.

"It really is a lovely scheme and we can't wait to cut the ribbon on more council homes elsewhere in the district later this year."

The Moors is one of several council housing schemes recently under development. A further 25 new homes are currently being built on two other sites, one in Saffron Walden and one in Great Chesterford, which will be ready to occupy later this year.
