'Discover Uttlesford' marketing campaign launched to encourage recreational visitors to the district

Uttlesford District Council today announced the launch of its 'Discover Uttlesford' marketing campaign.

The marketing campaign comprises a bespoke website and a mobile app, launching later this month, alongside a number of marketing promotions, all designed to drive footfall back into Uttlesford town centres by showcasing independent shops, places to eat and drink, things to do and regional heritage.

The target audience consists of visitors within a two-hour commute of Uttlesford (specifically age 55+) as well as residents.

The Discover Uttlesford website ( and supporting marketing campaigns are designed to encourage recreational visitors to spend time and money in the district - specifically, Great Dunmow, Saffron Walden, Thaxted and Stansted Mountfitchet are showcased.

The marketing campaign is led by Uttlesford District Council in collaboration with HM Government and the European Regional Development Fund. It runs through spring 2022.

Cllr Neil Reeve, the council's portfolio holder for the economy, investment and corporate strategy, said: "The last two years have been particularly challenging for tourism, retail and hospitality businesses and it is important that we do all we can to support their recovery by helping to increase footfall in our town centres.

"Uttlesford is a special place with some wonderful attractions, and this campaign presents an exciting opportunity to be able to encourage more people to come and visit and enjoy all that the district has to offer."

Local PR and marketing agency SarahBee Marketing Ltd is managing the marketing campaign to promote Discover Uttlesford to both potential visitors as well as the region's SMEs in retail, leisure, hospitality, food and drink.

The Discover Uttlesford marketing campaign includes a package of free strategic and tactical marketing resources. The toolkit includes marketing tools and tips for business owners, as well as access to group business coaching and social media resources.

The website is the primary portal to showcase Uttlesford with pages including: 'Inspire, Sleep, Explore, Eat & Drink, News & Events, Plan Your Visit, Contact Us'. The chosen social media platforms are Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
