Discover Uttlesford: New mobile app for visitors and residents

A new digital app designed to help local businesses, services and venues to promote their offers, and provide residents with information on activities taking place in their local towns, will be available from tomorrow (30 March).

By linking residents and businesses, and showcasing each town's unique offers, DSCVR has successfully increased footfall and time spent by people in town and village centres across the country.

The new dscvr app (pronounced Discover) is part of the 'Discover Uttlesford' initiatives developed by Uttlesford District Council. The Discover Uttlesford website went live earlier this month -

Cllr Neil Reeve, the council's portfolio holder for the economy, investment and corporate strategy, said: "The effect of the pandemic on our local businesses has been enormous. We are working hard to support these businesses with our 'Discover Uttlesford' initiatives.

"The new dscvr app will enable both local residents and visitors to make the most of everything our town and village centres have to offer. It will signpost the user to places to eat, shop, enjoy leisure facilities and events, and take advantage of special offers. The app also offers a free platform for businesses to promote themselves directly to people's phones.

"We are increasingly reliant on our mobile phones in our daily lives and it is fantastic to be able to access all this local information in one place. I am very pleased with this initiative and hope that it will help residents, visitors and businesses enjoy our beautiful district."

The dscvr app has been funded by the Welcome Back Fund. The fund, developed by the government as part of the Covid-19 response, comes from the European Regional Development Fund and aims to support the high street and tourist attractions in welcoming back shoppers and visitors.

Residents can download the app from Wednesday 30 March via or by searching 'dscvr' in the app store.
