UDC hosts information morning for Ukrainian guests and sponsors
An information morning for Ukrainian guests and their sponsors was held in Uttlesford earlier this week.
The 'Next Steps' event was organised by Uttlesford District Council and the aim was to provide advice and support for Ukrainian guests and their hosts on a range of issues, such as private and social housing, benefits, the re-matching process and signposting to employment and training opportunities, as well as to help identify areas where future additional support may be required.
Service providers who supported the event were Uttlesford Citizens Advice, Mind in West Essex, Stansted Airport, the Shaw Trust, Job Centre Plus, and Henry Row.
More than 40 sponsors and guests attended, and the information was made accessible to guests through a translator.
A second event will be held in the south of the district next month.
Cllr Petrina Lees, Leader of the council, said: "We have more than 200 Ukrainians living in Uttlesford and we want our guests to feel welcome and get the help they need moving forward. It's also important that sponsors can find out how to access the right information and support.
"That is why we held the event - it was an interesting and informative morning, with some honest conversations on the potential issues faced by those looking to move on. I'd like to thank all those who attended, and also council officers, partners and the public for their commitment in helping our guests and making them feel welcome in our district. I look forward to the next event."
