District By-Election - Great Dunmow South and Barnston

A District Council by-election will take place on Thursday 5 January 2023 for the Great Dunmow South and Barnston Ward.

Polling will take place at the usual polling stations - Barnston village hall; the United Reform Church Hall and the ET Foakes Memorial Hall in Great Dunmow from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 5 January.

Anyone wishing to stand for election needs to download and complete a  nomination paper (Word doc) [274KB] in accordance with the legal timetable.

Nomination papers need to be submitted in person from Tuesday 29 November.

Tuesday 29 November
Nomination period opens - 9am to 4pm weekdays.  You need to make an appointment.

Tuesday 6 December
Nomination period closes - 4pm

Poll cards will be issued around Tuesday 6 December - if you have not received one by 12 December, please contact us

Thursday 15 December
Registration deadline by midnight on Thursday 15 December.  If you are not registered to vote you can register online.

Friday 16 December
Postal vote deadline - 5pm on Friday 16 December. You can download a postal vote application.

Tuesday 20 December
Postal votes will be issued around Tuesday 20 December - these go by first class postage

Friday 23 December
Proxy vote deadline - 5pm on Friday 23 December.  You can download a proxy vote application.

Post-election

The candidate (PDF) [18KB] and agent (PDF) [18KB]  must by law submit a declaration with their expenditure incurred.

The spreadsheet (gi.ui.mediatype.spreadsheets) [89KB]  must be completed and returned to the Proper Officer marked for the attention of the Electoral Services Manager with the Declarations by Thursday 9 February, even if it is a "nil" return.  

There is no requirement in law for the Proper Officer or his team to check these, just receive them.
