Still time to comment on Local Plan

There is still time for people to have their say on the latest version of the Uttlesford Local Plan.

Known as the 'Regulation 19 Pre-submission Local Plan', this is the final stage before the plan is submitted to the government for independent examination.

Residents and other interested parties, including statutory bodies such as neighbouring councils and government agencies, have an opportunity to comment on the content of the plan.

Uttlesford District Council has updated the Local Plan Story Map. This online resource highlights some of the key features and sets out the plan in a way that's easy to access and digest. It contains a series of maps and images, as well as links to the policies which will guide future development within the district.

How to submit your views

There are different ways to send in comments.

Online - visit This is the quickest and easiest way to read the Pre-submission Local Plan and to provide feedback. Alongside the published plan is a form which is designed to help everyone follow the guidelines and submit comments in the right way for the planning inspector.

Via email - The comments form is available to download from the council website. Responses should be sent to

Via post - A paper copy of the comments form can be used, which is available from the council website or the District Council Offices or libraries. Written responses should be posted to: Planning Policy Team, Uttlesford District Council, London Road, Saffron Walden CB11 4ER

Paper copies of the Local Plan document are available to view at the Uttlesford District Council Offices in Saffron Walden, at libraries and mobile libraries in the district, at the council's Customer Service desk at Great Dunmow Library, and Thaxted Community Information Centre. Copies have also been distributed to town and parish councils.

It is a requirement of the Local Plan process that comments can only be accepted if they are received in writing (online, via email or via post). Comments made verbally or anonymously cannot be accepted, although council officers will help anyone who requests assistance. The council is obliged to make all representations available for public inspection on its website.

Next steps

Following this stage of the process the plan will be formally submitted, along with the representations received, later this year to the Planning Inspectorate. It is anticipated the hearing sessions for the public examination of the plan by a Planning Inspector will commence in early 2019.
