Cycling in Uttlesford

Cycling is a low-impact, aerobic activity, which means it is easier on your joints than running, and what's more, your heart, blood vessels and lungs all get a workout too.

There are plenty of beautiful routes to cycle through in Uttlesford.

Routes

Sustrans has a handy route finder with maps and distances for all abilities.

National Cycle Route

If you want to follow a signposted trail National Cycle Route 11 passes through much of the district from Stansted Mountfitchet to Great Chesterford and is well marked.

Wildlife cycling routes

Three cycle rides that follow generally quieter lanes and which each take you on a tour past some of the district's special roadside verges.

These are at their best from May to September when the wildflowers are in season. You may also see summer Butterflies like the Common Blue, a specialist of chalk loving vegetation.

You can find details of these wildlife routes on the Uttlesford Wildlife website.
