Rural housing schemes evaluation
These evaluations examine the impact that affordable housing schemes for local people have on the towns and villages in which they are built.
There are many challenges that need to be overcome in the rural parts of the district. These include:
- lack of movement of householders
- low volume of housing
- lack of services
- poor transport links
- difficulty engaging the community in some local areas
It is also largely due to high house prices in Uttlesford.
Our housing needs surveys have shown that it was more expensive to live in the rural areas.
The surveys suggest there was an increased need for subsidised housing especially in the much higher priced rural areas.
To help us to better understand the situation we undertook a Rural Housing Schemes Evaluation (PDF, 272 KB) in 2008. This provides a synopsis of schemes recently built in the district.
Update evaluation
In 2014 we carried out a Rural Housing Schemes update evaluation (PDF, 630 KB) which surveys all of the schemes completed in the previous ten years.
