Solar Together Essex

Find out about the solar panel group buying scheme aiming to help make the county zero-carbon by 2050.

If you live or run a business in Essex you can register for 'Solar Together Essex', the solar panel group buying scheme.

The Essex County Council (ECC) scheme helps buyers through the process of purchasing high quality solar panels, offering lower prices than the open market and pairing up residents with trusted suppliers. Solar Together Essex helps residents to save money on both installation and future energy bills.

Join the scheme

You can register for free and without obligation on the Essex Solar Together website.

There is currently no active scheme in Uttlesford. But you can  still leave your details and the ECC team will send you an invitation as soon as registration opens for the next scheme in the district.

Start now

To register, simply provide details about your roof such as size and orientation. This will help the ECC team to determine whether you are eligible for rooftop solar panels, battery installation, or both.

After you've registered

ECC will add your details to the list of people who have registered. The more people that register, the better the deal should be for each household.

All the interested suppliers will then be invited to bid to give the best price for providing solar panels. Auctions take place throughout the year.

After 12 March, Solar Together Essex will contact you with:

  • a personal recommendation
  • costs
  • the specification for solar panel installation
  • an invitation to an online information session

You'll then have a few weeks to decide whether you want to accept the recommendation.

You do not have to take up the offer if you don't want to.

If you do not like the offer, or the time is not right, you will be able to wait for another auction.
