Verification number for petitions

The Council is required each year to publish a figure equivalent to 5% of the number of local government electors in the district as at 15 February.

Publication of Verification Number

Regulation 4 (1) of the above Regulations requires each local authority to publish annually a verification number which is the figure equal to 5% of the number of local government electors for the authority's area as at 15 February.

The Regulations make provision for the holding of a referendum on whether the council should change to a different form of governance upon the receipt of a valid petition indicating that at least 5% of the local government electors in Uttlesford want such a referendum to be held.

The reason for publishing this information is for the purpose of determining the validity of petitions presented during the period between 1 April 2021 and 31 March 2022.
