HGV driving training

Funding is being provided by Uttlesford District Council (UDC) to support at least 10 jobseekers in the area to train as lorry drivers.

The funding will be available for those in receipt of Universal Credit, with candidates identified by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) as part of their ongoing work supporting claimants into employment.  Please speak to an advisor at Job Centre Plus for more information.


Online training 

If you live in Uttlesford and are currently unemployed you can register for free remote training sessions by calling 0114 551 2551. The correct equipment including access to high-speed internet if necessary will be provided.

Working in partnership with We Are Digital we are offering remote training and support for residents who require help with essential IT skills including:

  • How to video call friends & family
  • Using social media such as Facebook (including Internet Safety)
  • Arranging GP appointments by video
  • Shopping online (due to travel restrictions)
  • Doing online banking (safer than telephone banking)
  • How to access your social landlord housing portal
  • Government forms online & on the phone (benefits such as Universal Credit)

Getting you back into work

If you are currently unemployed the Shaw Trust will work with you to complete training and find placements in businesses across a number of key sectors. 

This will help you acquire new or updated skills to help you back into work. Key sectors include construction, health and social care, warehousing and digital skills.

Kickstart your career in technology

The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud Practitioner Course is a full-time, 12-week, online programme that prepares you for a career in cloud technology. The course is fully funded for unemployed residents.  Through instructor-led training you'll gain the technical skills needed for an entry-level role in cloud tech.

You will be supported by a dedicated mentor throughout your course and search for employment. The AWS Cloud Practitioner Course includes a guaranteed interview once you are job-ready.

First Steps to Start-up Success is an online training course, split into two bite-sized sessions. Perfect for those starting up or developing a new business.

Anyone looking to start-up or develop a new business or idea would benefit from attending, and no prior business knowledge is required.
