Domestic waste collections update

Domestic waste collections in Uttlesford are getting back on track following a recent period of disruption.

Uttlesford District Council's regular crews and vehicles are out this week operating a full collection service. They are aiming to visit all parts of the district on their normal days and will be emptying recycling bins and food waste caddies. Residents are advised that collections may be a little slower than usual due to the extra recycling that will be left out for collection.

Dedicated crews will also be returning to the areas for the few remaining unemptied non-recycling bins.

The council is drawing up plans for the garden waste collection service and aims to resume collections as quickly as possible. Details will be made available in the coming days.

Cllr Neil Reeve, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Climate Change, said: "We appreciate how frustrated and upset residents are by the disruption and we apologise again for this breakdown of waste collection over the last couple of weeks. I am pleased that we are starting the process of an operational resilience review that includes not just the waste collection service but also the applicable learnings for all services and operations of the council.

"We are extremely grateful to Braintree District Council, as well as Widdington Recycling and Lightwood Plc, who have helped us with collections during this period. We will for a short while continue to call on the extra support to help us get on top of any backlogs, as well as getting back to operating our usual collections on the regular collection days."

Cllr Tom Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Transformation, the Environment and Customer Services at Braintree District Council, said: "We are pleased we are in a position where we've been able to provide support to Uttlesford District Council by deploying some of our refuse vehicles and staff which has enabled them to resume waste collections. We will continue to provide support where we can whilst protecting and ensuring no impact on our own waste collection services."

Residents can see the regular waste collection updates via the council's social media channels and on the website: www.uttlesford.gov.uk/missed-bins.
