MPs and councils meeting to tackle East of England water issues
MPs and councillors are meeting to tackle water issues affecting the East of England - from housing and business growth to flooding and drought.
It will provide an opportunity for MPs and local authorities to collaborate with organisations including water companies, the Environment Agency and more to discuss water issues affecting housing and business growth, as well as environment impacts and flooding.
Targeted at those involved in planning, the environment, highways, economic development and local authority leadership, it will also provide a platform to share best practice.
Cllr Matthew Hicks, Chair of EELGA and Leader of Suffolk County Council, said: "Water issues present complex challenges for communities in the East of England across a wide range of areas.
"Many of our region's councils have great examples of initiatives to navigate the complexities of water. However, we all have much to learn to address long-term challenges and this summit will help that."
Attendees will learn about and discuss the future water supply required to meet demand for growth, behavioural changes to reduce the demand for the resource, and the future of flood management.
Speakers include Daniel Zeichner, MP for Cambridge and Shadow Minister for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Duncan Baker, MP for North Norfolk, Cllr John Evans, Cabinet Member for Planning at Uttlesford District Council, Cllr Bridget Smith, Leader of South Cambridgeshire District Council and more.
Cllr Evans added: "Water issues are an incredibly important part of local authorities' responsibilities. Therefore, events like this are essential to ensure we are sharing knowledge and best practice for the future."
