Get active with pedal power this spring!

Spring is a great time to jump on your bike and cycle to work, school or to do your shopping - and some new active cycling projects in Saffron Walden are here to help!

Three new e-bike schemes are available from this week as part of the town-wide Saffron Walden Clean Air Project, which aims to raise awareness of air pollution and enable more sustainable ways to travel.

The new bike schemes are:

·         Saffron Walden Bike Club - rent an e-bike or pedal bike for up to six months at a subsidised rate to see if cycling is for you. Pay monthly with no deposit. Get a bike delivered to your home or work address.

·         App-Bike hire - sign-up to App-Bike to get out and about and around the town. With a network of 35 bikes and e-bikes available at various locations, it's really easy to hire - just download the app to start your journey.

·         'Our Bike' community e-cargo bike - try out the new community e-cargo bike. Residents and businesses can hire the bike for making deliveries, transporting large goods or bringing their shopping back from the market.

An event was held in the Market Place on Tuesday (9 April) for people to find out more about the schemes and try out the bikes. It was hosted by Uttlesford District Council with project partners from Active Cycling Projects, Our Bike and MP Smarter Travel. Essex County Council also provided confidence-building cycling sessions and a 'bike doctor' service where mechanics offered free cycle health-checks and repairs.

There will be more exciting events coming up in May and June. Look out on the Uttlesford District Council social media pages for details or visit the website: www.uttlesford.gov.uk/saffron-walden-clean-air-project.
