'Pedal Perks' ready to hit top gear

A new discount scheme to encourage more people to get on their bikes and visit local and independent businesses has been launched in Saffron Walden.

Uttlesford District Council has reached out to local tourist attractions, cafes, restaurants and shops to offer cyclists a 'Pedal Perk' as a thank you for supporting the town's journey to cleaner air.

The council has recently launched a series of bike hire offers - our APP Bike, Bike Club and 'Our Bike' cargo bike - to help get Saffron Walden cycling as part of the town-wide Clean Air Campaign which aims to raise awareness of air pollution and enable more sustainable ways to travel.

Under the new Pedal Perks scheme, cyclists can hop on any of these services and benefit from the deals or ride their own bike and pick up the same perks. All they need to do is show their cycling helmet at the point of purchase to redeem the offer.

Audley End House and Gardens, Saffron Grange Vineyard and Audley End Miniature Railway are all taking part and offering various discounts - and there's lots more including special offers at Blossom Bites café, Kappa House and Church Street Gallery.

Sarah from English Heritage said: "Audley End House and Gardens is delighted to be taking part in this scheme to help encourage car-free adventures where possible. We're looking forward to welcoming visitors via public transport or bike, and those that do will receive 20% off their admission ticket."

Daisy from Church Street Gallery said: "We are delighted to support the Saffron Walden Clean Air Project - let's all work towards making our beautiful town greener, healthier and happier."

Kay from Kappa House added: "We would very much encourage people to get on their bikes more and pedal their way around all the wonderful independent businesses in Uttlesford. We're offering 10% off all hot drinks for cyclists so hopefully we'll see lots more of you over the coming weeks."
