Crimestoppers Zone in Great Dunmow
An initiative aimed at building confidence in local communities about reporting crime and deterring criminals is active in Great Dunmow.
Many people feel reluctant to report crimes to the police or local authorities, but Crimestoppers provides anonymity to those providing information.
The introduction of the first 'Crimestoppers Zone' in Uttlesford, located in the CM6 postcode area, comes in response to local concerns about increased level of crime.
Members of the Uttlesford Community Safety Partnership (CSP), which includes Essex Police and local councils, have been raising awareness in the area about the initiative.
Cllr Maggie Sutton, Chair of the CSP, said: "We hope this initiative will build confidence among communities about reporting crime and also highlight the importance of Crimestoppers, which gives people the chance to report information 100% anonymously without fear of being identified in any way.
"If you see something that concerns you, you have a safe and anonymous way to speak up. Together we can make a real difference in making our communities safer."
Crimestoppers, which is independent from the police, can be contacted 24/7, 365 days a year freephone on 0800 555 111 or online via www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
In an emergency, always call 999.
