Museum gets Arts Council approval and celebrates with Heritage Open Day event
Saffron Walden Museum has received full accreditation from Arts Council England, which is the UK industry standard for museums and galleries.
This follows the lengthy submission of the application and associated paperwork in January and all the rounds of follow-up questions that followed.
This is an excellent achievement for the museum and will be of great help with further advocacy and funding applications going forward.
The Arts Council accreditation scheme helps everyone involved with a museum to do the right things, helping people to access and engage with collections, and protect them for future generations.
To celebrate the re-accreditation, you can join the museum on Saturday 7 September as part of the "Heritage Open Days" Festival, England's biggest free heritage festival. The museum will be waiving its admission fees so it will be free to visit that day. This is a fantastic opportunity to explore the museum if you haven't visited recently. Visitors can also check out the new features that have recently been added.
The museum will be holding a second hand-book sale, and plants will be available to purchase. There will be mystery social history items to identify, and the Essex Finds Liaison Officer will be on hand to identify any archaeology finds you have discovered on your walks or in your gardens.
There is no need to book in advance for a general visit, but if you would like to bring your archaeological finds to be identified, please book online in advance via https://calendly.com/pasessex.
