Have your say on council tax support scheme
Uttlesford residents are being invited to have their say on how much support the council should give to people who might struggle to pay their Council Tax bill.
Councils run a scheme called Local Council Tax Support (LCTS) which is designed to help the most vulnerable. The scheme is set by Uttlesford District Council which has some discretion over how it is administered.
For 2025/26, the council is proposing to maintain the scheme on the same basis as this year. This includes freezing the contribution rate, meaning the amount that LCTS claimants pay towards their Council Tax would stay at 12.5% of their full bill. This remains the lowest contribution rate in the county.
The council is also proposing to continue to protect vulnerable and disabled residents and carers who are on a low income. Pensioners who are on a low income are automatically protected from any changes.

Residents can now give their views on the proposals. The easiest way to do this is via the online questionnaire which can be found on the website, or by emailing any comments to consultation@uttlesford.gov.uk.

The council will accept emails, completed online and paper forms up to and including Monday 28 October.
The results of the consultation will be presented to district councillors in the autumn with the final scheme for 2025/26 being agreed by the end of the year. The new scheme will start from 1 April 2025.
