Long-term bike loan scheme now available to anyone in Uttlesford

Uttlesford District Council has expanded its bike loan 'try-before-you-buy' scheme - and now anyone in Uttlesford can hire an e-bike, e-cargo bike or pedal bike.

The long-term bike loan offer is one of three hire schemes operating in Saffron Walden as part of a town-wide clean air project to raise awareness of air pollution and enable more sustainable ways to travel.

The council is delighted to be able to roll out the scheme across the district.

Anyone who lives or works in Uttlesford can hire a bike from one month to six months. They can pay monthly by subscription, with no deposit and stop at any time. The bike will be delivered to their home or work address.

This is ideal for anyone who would like to try out a bike or e-bike before buying - just like Wicken Bonhunt resident Claire who has had an e-bike on loan for the past few months.

"My e-bike to be a practical alternative to a car. I do regular short trips on the e-bike every day, sometimes several times a day," said Claire.

"I was a reluctant cyclist, but now I love it. I'm a convert and will look at pricing and what to buy, but for now I like the hire scheme and the 'try before you buy' ethic."

It's easy to hire a bike - simply visit the Saffron Walden Bike Club website via www.uttlesford.gov.uk/EV-bikes-hire-or-try-before-you-buy and choose the type of bike you would like.
