Uttlesford grassroots sustainability collaboration gets off the ground

Over 70 people from a range of grassroots community groups and parish and town councils attended a celebration and launch event hosted by Uttlesford District Council earlier this month. They heard from some of the projects that are happening across the district to enhance biodiversity and deliver community energy, whilst it was also an opportunity to network and share ideas.

Called 'Sustainable Uttlesford', the collaboration will build on the experience and knowledge of existing projects and eco groups, with the overall goal of providing expertise, advice, financial and other support to encourage and motivate villages, towns and other local community groups to take their own climate and biodiversity action.

The group will be led by a committee of volunteers, with regular meetings held to continue the discussion and to develop ideas and actions. An online connection hub, which will act as an information directory and resource library, will be going live soon.

Sustainable Uttlesford Committee Member Carole Sullivan, who also serves as a councillor on Great Dunmow Town Council, said: "It was great to see so many like-minded people at the launch event and to hear how small actions are helping to make more sustainable and climate resilient communities in Uttlesford.

"This collaboration marks the beginning of a long-term commitment to learning, sharing resources and supporting each other, with the aspiration that we can better protect and enhance our environment in a more coordinated and impactful way."
