Businesses vote 'yes' to continue Saffron Walden BID

Local businesses have voted in favour of continuing to fund Saffron Walden Business Improvement District (BID) for another five years.

The owners of 266 town centre business premises were asked to vote on whether to pay a levy of 1.5% on top of their rateable value to fund the BID for a second term.

The result, announced on Thursday (29 June) following a month-long postal ballot, revealed 59% voted 'yes'. Turn-out was 46%.

It means the BID will continue to at least the next ballot in 2028.

The BID will continue to deliver projects, programmes and services to businesses in the town centre in these main areas:

·         Attracting relevant footfall into the town's businesses

·         Engaging residents and visitors by holding additional activities bringing in new customer potential

·         Creating a thriving business community, working together to address business needs and challenges
